Art in the City

Under the moniker Art in the City (Kunst in de Stad), and conceived as a branch of the Middelheim Museum, the municipal public art collection is managed, studied, and expanded.

In addition to this collection-driven work, Art in the City also initiates temporary art projects and conducts research into the history and social significance of art in public space in Antwerp and beyond. Art in the City also offers advice and guidance on new art commissions to other municipal departments and public institutions.

The city of Antwerp and its museums manage numerous art collections, among which the Art in the City collection is likely the most visible: statues, monuments and other artworks adorn the streets, squares and parks in every district of the city.
Art in the City organises short-term projects and art interventions in public space in Antwerp.
The ambition to make information about the Art in the City collection accessible to the public and art professionals, gives rise to a focus on research, debate and reflection.
