Both the Middelheim Museum and the University of Antwerp are situated where the Colonial College was founded in 1920. Exactly a hundred years later, this is the occasion for the Middelheim Museum to examine and unfold the traces of the (post) colonial history of the site. It does so by bringing together new historical research with contemporary artistic views.

Individual visitors

The exhibition CONGOVILLE, conceived by Belgian-Congolese guest curator Sandrine Colard, invites several African and international artists to take the visitor on a walk. The presented artists’ practices, formal language and background differ, but all share a common interest in the representation of history from different perspectives. These artists share their observations while acting as post-colonial flâneurs, while also looking forward to the future.
