Long live sculpture!

1 June until 3 September 2006

The Middelheim Museum shares its enthusiasm about an artistic medium with a rich past and a fascinating future. Eleven Belgian and international artists gave their own contemporary interpretation of sculpture as a genre for a group exhibition entitled “Long Live Sculpture!”.

This exhibition brought together very diverse works, with some artists working with traditional materials such as bronze or wood, while others used silicone and polyester. Nature was a source of inspiration, as well as comics and Hollywood films. Some works were gigantic, others quite minute. The result was an exciting exhibition.

The eleven participating artists:

  • Jeonghwa Choi (KO)
  • Katharina Fritsch (D)
  • Folkert de Jong (NL)
  • Philip Metten (B)
  • Yoshitomo Nara (J)
  • Patricia Piccinini (AUS)
