The Bridge Without a Name
Ai Weiwei (b. China, 1957)
The Middelheim Museum asked Ai Weiwei to build a bridge. The artist was only too happy to take up the invitation. He saw it as a challenge, as he had never built a bridge before.
Bidon Bleu
Roman Signer (b. Switzerland, 1938)
The sculpture Bidon Bleu is part of a series of actions in which the artist launches objects into the open-air with the help of a slope.
Poëzie
Philippe Van Snick (b. Ghent, 1946)
In Poëzie, Philippe Van Snick has set up a spatial installation on the Braem Pavilion lawn. In its creation, he has used an existing, rather antiquated water feature.
‘Misconceivable’
Erwin Wurm (1954)
Middelheimmuseum heeft het sleutelwerk van de expo Wear me out van Erwin Wurm aangekocht. De kromme boot of Misconceivable (2010) krijgt definitief een plaats binnen de museumcollectie.
‘The Column (A Flemish Monument/La Colonne)’
Johan Creten (b. 1963)
For Johan Creten, ‘The Column’ is the ultimate Flemish Monument. The work was inspired by both architecture and nature.
‘Coin Punitif (Childhood Memory)’
Selçuk Mutlu (b. 1975)
‘All those who wish to can use my work to consider the process of punishing somebody, of dominating them, not just physically but also psychologically.’
‘The Black Sheep’
Johan Muyle (b. 1956)
A human skeleton sits on a bicycle that has wheels but no tyres. Its back faces the handlebars, a dangerous position indeed.
